Auchterarder care home residents thank the Queen for her surprise visit

A group of care home residents in Auchterarder, Perthshire have thanked the Queen for a surprise visit to their home to help them celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.

Residents and staff at Balhousie Ruthven Towers have written a thank you letter to the Queen for dropping in over the weekend and posing for photos. The visit left them “speechless”, they say, although “it did not entirely surprise us that you would choose a trip up here to bucolic, sunny Perthshire over a crowded Pall Mall and rain.”

Balhousie Care Group, which is marking its own anniversary after 30 years in business, believes the Queen’s ‘visit’ to the popular Perthshire care home solves the mystery of her whereabouts last weekend when she was absent from events in her honour at St. Paul’s Cathedral and Buckingham Palace.

At Ruthven Towers, she spent time in residents’ rooms and lounges, listened quietly to their stories and took part in their Platinum cream tea - all whilst impressively maintaining the exact same smile throughout her visit.

Said Home Manager Kirsty Smith: “The Queen’s visit was a lot of fun and summed up the wicked sense of humour our residents share with the Monarch. With all due respect to Sir Rod Stewart, we are tickled that she chose Ruthven Towers over Rod.”
