In her foreword to the annual report and accounts of the Department for International Trade (DIT) for 2021–22, International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan points to “major strides” towards the Government’s goal of building Global Britain.
Available HERE, the 202-page report examines progress in the DIT’s four priority areas.
These are:
- securing world-class free trade agreements and reducing market access barriers
- delivering economic growth to all the nations and regions of the UK through attracting and retaining inward investment
- supporting UK business to take full advantage of trade opportunities
- championing the rules-based international trading system and operating the UK’s new trading system, including protecting UK businesses from unfair trade practices.
The report highlights that the UK has secured trading agreements with 70 countries including Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with Australia and New Zealand and a digital trade agreement with Singapore.
In addition, it has launched trade talks with India and Canada and is on track to secure accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) by the end of 2022.
“Our ‘Made in the UK, Sold to the World’ export strategy set a clear direction and will help ensure the UK’s support services for exporters succeed in a changing trading landscape,” the DIT states. “The strategy includes an ambition to ‘Race to a Trillion’ worth of exports so that the UK recovers from the pandemic and builds back better and greener.”
