Throughout National Smile Month, Dental Hygienist of the Year Christina Chatfield aims to walk 500 miles in one month.

A trio of smilers - Lynne Wilson, Lianne Thomson and Shelli Duncan - from Beam Specialist Orthodontic practice in Dundee will join her for the Dundee to Perth leg, leaving the Beam practice on Tuesday 20 May 2014.

Furthermore, to give Christina and her walking partner a luxurious night\'s rest after the first day of the expedition, Beam have arranged for Malmaison Dundee to accommodate the pair free of charge before they move onto the next stop.

Christina will be walking \'500miles4smiles\' from Kirriemuir, where her career began, down to Brighton where her current practice is based, passing through 32 destinations. Groups of walkers will join her throughout each leg of the month-long walk. Funds raised will go towards Mouth Cancer Action Month, a disease which experts have forecast will rise within the next decade.

Rhu McKelvey, Specialist Orthodontist at Beam commented, \'As specialist orthodontists, we share Christina’s passion for improving oral health and maintaining a healthy mouth and smile. My colleagues are delighted to be joining her on the Dundee to Perth leg, raising much-needed funds for a form of cancer which has a fairly low profile compared to the huge risks it carries. After all, maintaining good oral health isn’t just about flashing a healthy smile, but also detecting disease early and ultimately saving lives.\'
