Taking a leap into your own business is a scary gamble, from the exhilarating planning stage and assessment of market opportunities, to the doubts and worries of building a network, plus growing and sustaining a client list; it is undoubtedly a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows.
Making a commitment to the “long game” is vital; time-management, not rushing, knowing your limitations and learning to say no are also crucial. They say a week in politics is a long time but a year as your own boss flies by, hence the need for frequent reflection.
It is a steep learning curve for new entrepreneurs, and forging relationships with peers and other professionals to seek support and advice can be a god-send. Finding the ideal premises to work from and keeping up-to-date with industry trends whilst simultaneously expending much time and effort on business development can be challenging but necessary.
I have found that attending early morning networking meetings and monthly trade get-togethers is vital for my mental health, enthusiasm and business growth.
With the support of my family and my network, we have diversified our services to include holiday accommodation management and HMO management, as well as our residential property management.
So, a year in, and I hope many happy clients.
No laurel-resting here though as I am in the process of moving into a new office as well as navigating fresh areas of the property sphere - watch this space.
Our new office is based at Spalding House, Queen Street, Broughty Ferry. We hope you come down and see us!
