Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce are encouraging employers to sign up for the Certificate of Work Readiness to provide opportunities for young people and the employer to gain 190 hours work experience from the individual.
It’s a great opportunity to benefit from the fresh ideas and energy that young people can bring to your business. We’ve listened to what employers want and, working together, we’ve developed the Certificate of Work Readiness, a new qualification for young people. It shows that a young person has reached an employer defined standard and is ready for work. The Certificate will help employers in the recruitment process as young people who achieve the award will be able to evidence valuable work experience and show that they can turn up on time, can work with others and have the right attitude.

What’s involved?
• the Certificate is aimed at young people who have a positive attitude to work but who need to develop extra skills to help them get and sustain a job
• a core part of the Certificate is work experience and employer assessment – we will work with you to find the best match for your business
• the Certificate takes around 10 weeks to complete and includes a minimum of 190 hours work experience
• you will endorse the performance of the young person and decide whether they have demonstrated satisfactory work-readiness in your work place
• a training provider will offer support to minimise the time you need to spend on the process
• a training allowance or Education Maintenance Allowance may be available to the young person as payment.

The Certificate of Work Readiness is a great example of the help available to employers interested in providing opportunities for young people.
