Local business aims to shine a spotlight on Damp & Mould

Alator Data Services have launched a week-long social media campaign to shine a spotlight on Damp & Mould. With key pieces of guidance released, and Awaab’s Law and updates to the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) approaching, Alator have launched the campaign to encourage conversations and facilitate the sharing of knowledge, ideas and best practices.

'This is a defining moment for the housing sector. Digital innovation, new legislation and fresh approaches to fuel poverty, are transforming the housing sector's response to damp & mould. It's important we use all platforms to encourage the sharing of ideas, experiences (good and bad) and insights.

According to the Scottish Housing Condition Survey (2022), 10% of homes in Scotland had the presence of damp and condensation, roughly 246,000 homes. The presence of mould was slightly lower at 9%, but still totalling around 235,000 homes. This has a real-world effect that impacts everybody. A research briefing published in 2023 by the House of Commons estimates that the NHS spends £1.4 billion annually treating illness associated with living in cold or damp housing.
