AI Takes the Mic: Voiceover Artists Forced to Rethink Careers as Technology Advances

In the rapidly changing landscape of the digital age, many industries are grappling with the disruptive force of artificial intelligence (AI). Among those most affected are voiceover artists, who are finding themselves edged out by increasingly sophisticated AI technology capable of replicating human speech with astonishing accuracy. The rise of AI-generated voiceovers has led many professionals to reconsider their career paths, me included.

For years, I thrived as a voiceover artist, lending my voice to various projects that required a human touch. However, as AI began to dominate the field, I made the difficult decision to pivot my career.

With the support and guidance of the Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce (DACC), I embarked on a journey to evolve, retrain and transform, emerging as a diploma-qualified Independent Civil Celebrant.

In my new role, I get to meet people and bring the same passion and attention to detail that defined my voiceover work to a different kind of storytelling—one that celebrates life’s most meaningful moments.

As an independent civil celebrant, I have the privilege of officiating weddings, conducting funerals, and presiding over other significant ceremonies such as naming days now. My work allows me to craft personalized ceremonies that reflect the unique stories of the individuals involved.

An important distinction to note for those considering my services for weddings is the difference between English and Scottish celebrants. In England, celebrants can perform symbolic ceremonies, but these are not legally binding; couples must also visit a registry office to complete the legalities.

In Scotland, however, celebrants that belong to a faith or belief recognized by the Registrar General, may be approved to legally officiate / solemnize weddings, ensuring that the ceremony is both meaningful and legally recognized.

For the time being, I’m only able to conduct symbolic ceremonies, but I intend to improve on this soon.

In addition to my celebrant services, I also serve as a Master of Ceremonies (MC) for weddings and corporate events. Whether it’s guiding a couple through their wedding day with grace and charm or ensuring a corporate event runs smoothly, I bring a professional yet personable approach to every occasion.

The transition from voiceover artist to civil celebrant and MC has been a rewarding journey. It’s a reminder that, even in the face of technological advances, there’s still a place for the human touch in our most important moments.

For those struggling with their business, I’m here to show that with the help of The DACC, you can evolve too.
