East Neuk Showcase of Creative Talent

A wealth of independent designers will once again descend on East Neuk venue Bowhouse in September for their monthly showcase of creative talent.

Following their first ever market at Bowhouse in December 2017, Dundee-based Tea Green Events have been hosting monthly markets at the beautiful venue since the start of 2024, with their next event on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September.

This year marks Tea Green Events’ 10th anniversary, which will see them hold a record 20 markets across Scotland this year, driven by increased demand from independent makers and the public.

Specialising in carefully curated markets within some of Scotland’s most stunning creative spaces, Tea Green Events was launched by Dundee jeweller Joanne MacFadyen in 2014.

Joanne said, “Bowhouse has established itself as a fantastic place to discover Scotland's best independent food and creative businesses. With their focus on promoting fresh local food produce coupled with Tea Green's commitment to showcasing Scotland's best creative talent, our aims are very much aligned and the mix of food produce and Tea Green's selection of artists, designers and craftspeople is the perfect combination.

“With yummy produce, brilliant art, craft and design, along with live music and other activities, Bowhouse is an unmissable monthly market and a must-visit location for locals and visitors alike. Set amongst the stunning surroundings of the East Neuk of Fife, a weekend spent here is a weekend well spent!”

Rosie Jack, Business Development Manager at Bowhouse said, "The Bowhouse Market Weekends allow food and drink businesses to gather together from across Scotland to sell their produce. For us as a business, they are a real showcase of our ethos and expose Bowhouse to new audiences every month. We have worked with Tea Green Events for many years now, and their shared values around quality and Scottish craftsmanship are key to our markets. The East Neuk of Fife is home to many creative, hard-working business owners who are drawn to the area by the produce grown here and the lifestyle that can be created in this part of Scotland."

One of the regular makers who attends the Bowhouse markets is Wayne Galloway, a ceramic artist living and working in Crail.

Wayne is interested in the ancient firing technique of pitfiring. He connects his work to the local environment by collecting driftwood and seaweed from the Crail shores to fuel his kilns. Each piece has dramatic surfaces, reminiscent of the brooding East Neuk seas.

He has a particular interest in alternative firing techniques including horsehair and feather raku - resulting in delicate and unique markings. Feathers and horsehair are collected from local forests and stables.

Wayne said, “I have been exhibiting with Tea Green since 2019 and have found they provide unparalleled opportunities to showcase my work locally and across Scotland. I love the supportive community of makers and always look forward to coming to a Tea Green event.  The events are an essential part of my income as an artist. They allow me to connect directly with an audience who appreciate and want to buy handmade, locally designed work.”
