Dundee clinic Saves Face with new accreditation

Re-nu Skin Clinic in Dundee has become the first clinic in Tayside to be officially accredited as safe and qualified to carry out non-surgical treatments like dermal fillers.

Legally anyone in the UK can carry out these kinds of treatments and the industry has come under huge pressure to provide protection for patients from ‘cowboy’ practitioners. Save Face Ltd is the first organisation in the UK to provide a database of accredited practitioners – all of which have been visited and assessed for professionalism, qualifications and safety to give patients peace of mind when booking treatments.

Re-nu Skin Clinic, based in the heart of Dundee city centre, is a private clinic specialising in all aspects of skin and body conditions, laser hair removal and the latest anti-aging techniques. Clinical Director and Registered General Nurse Kristeen Geddes has over 10 years of experience in the aesthetics industry.

Speaking about Save Face, Kristeen said: “The non-surgical cosmetic treatment industry has been crying out for regulation and accountability for a long time, especially in Scotland, where there is even less guidance than in England and Wales. Patients have been left at sea when it comes to finding someone to safely carry out their procedure and it has resulted in some poor treatments results. It has damaged the reputation of the non-surgical cosmetic treatment industry. People are more worried about having treatments and less trusting of those delivering them.

“Save Face gives patients the reassurance that the clinics on its register have been thoroughly checked and visited and operate to the highest standards, so they can have a new-found confidence in the industry. We are very proud to be the first clinic in Tayside to hold the accreditation. We are very grateful to Save Face for working so closely with us to ensure our policies and procedures and operations were up to the highest standards and for providing us with a means to distinguish ourselves as safe and qualified.”

Brett Collins, Director of Save Face, said: “Our assessments measure qualifications and adherence to best practice standards, as well as the safety of premises, against a robust set of standards. We have patients at the heart of everything we do. If they decide they want a treatment, they can now find someone safe, caring and professional in their local area to carry it out for them. It’s been a pleasure working with Re-nu Skin Clinic and we’re delighted they are now fully accredited.”

The non-surgical cosmetic treatment market is currently worth £2.3 billion to the British economy and is set to increase to £3.6 billion by 2015. Save Face is run by directors Ashton Honeyball and Brett Collins, and clinical directors and experienced practitioners Emma Davies and Marie Dolan.

The Save Face register is only open to registered doctors, dentists and nurses who can demonstrate that they are insured and have received certified training. All premises are inspected. Practitioners must operate against best practice standards and have policies and procedures that demonstrate this. Save Face works with practitioners to help develop policies and improve standards across the industry.

Save Face also offers patients independent and unbiased information on non-surgical cosmetic treatments on its website www.saveface.co.uk.
