With the theme “Trade for Clean Energy Transition for All,” Trade and Environment Week will this year take place from 7 to 11 October highlighting how international trade can play a pivotal role in driving clean energy solutions and inclusive growth.
Leaders from the World Trade Organization (WTO), the International Renewable Energy Agency and other global organisations will mark the fifth annual celebration of the event with a conference at the WTO headquarters in Geneva to discuss the critical role of trade in supporting the clean energy transition.
Delegates including WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Celeste Saulo, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organisation, together with business representatives and academic experts, will explore how international trade policies can be leveraged to foster innovation, sustainability and economic growth for all nations.
In addition, the Week will include 15 side events organised by WTO members, addressing a wide range of trade–environment topics including plastics pollution, critical minerals, sustainable agriculture, the calculation of embedded carbon emissions, environmental goods and services, renewable energy and trade-related climate measures.
“Complementing the regular work of the WTO’s Committee on Trade and Environment, the Trade and Environment Week further fosters exchange around trade-related environmental issues between the WTO and trade and environment interested parties,” the WTO Secretariat said.
