HSE invites companies to submit GB PIC chemicals export notifications

The Health and Safety Executive, as the Prior Informed Consent (PIC) Designated National Authority (DNA) for Great Britain, is inviting companies to submit notifications for exports of chemicals in the GB PIC list that are expected to take place during 2026.

The list, which is available here, includes chemicals subject to the requirements of Regulation (EU) 649/2012 (the PIC Regulation). These chemicals include persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and chemicals listed in Annexes A and B of the Stockholm Convention that are already subject to an export ban.

The PIC List, which does not apply to chemicals used in drugs, radioactive materials, wastes, chemical weapons, food and food additives, feeding stuffs and medicinal products, places obligations on companies who wish to export or import listed chemicals from or to Great Britain.

The assimilated GB PIC Regulation requires the first export of a listed chemical in any calendar year, to any country, to be notified to the DNA at least 35 days before the intended date of export.

Information on the notification process for exporting GB PIC-listed chemicals can be found here.

When submitting export notifications, companies should attach only one export notification form and accompanying safety data sheet (SDS) to each email, which is to be sent to ukdna@hse.gov.uk.

In addition to this SDS in English, they must provide an SDS in the official language of the importing country, if available, or in one of its principal languages.
