Award-winning author, broadcaster and journalist Damian Barr, visited The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum on Saturday (13 Sept).
This visit followed Damian’s author event at the Steps Theatre, where he was discussing his newly published novel The Two Roberts, a powerful and poetic reimagining of the lives of Scottish artists Robert MacBryde and Robert Colquhoun. The novel explores their creative partnership, romantic relationship, and the challenges they faced as outsiders in the art world.
At The McManus, Damian viewed original works by the Two Roberts, featured in the new exhibition Border Crossings: Ten Masters of Modern Art. The show at The McManus in Dundee shines a light on ten pioneering modern Scottish artists, including Robert MacBryde and Robert Colquhoun whose bold visions and international acclaim have placed them among the greats of global art history.
The other artists include Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, William Crozier, Alan Davie, William Gear, William Johnstone, Eduardo Paolozzi, William Scott and William Turnbull.
Border Crossings at The McManus pays tribute to the remarkable legacy of these artists, explores their journeys and invites visitors to look at how Scotland’s modern masters helped shape the art scene worldwide.
The exhibition is FREE to visit and open now.
