The MKM Dundee Stars recently teamed up with Brand Scotland to showcase their goaltender Jarrett Fiske’s unique story, in a project aiming to showcase the merits of studying in Scotland for international students.
Jarrett first came to Scotland when the Dundee Stars signed him for the 2024/25 season after five consecutive seasons playing hockey in the NCAA, the top level of collegiate hockey in the United States split between American International College and Niagara University – two strongly established programmes.
Jarrett came to Scotland to kickstart his professional ice hockey career in Europe whilst the Stars also provided him with the opportunity to enrol in a Masters (MSc) programme at the same time through the Stars’ established partnership with the School of Business at the University of Dundee.
With some of the world’s most respected universities, Scotland offers a unique place to live, learn, and experience its vibrant culture. Jarrett's unique story is a testament to the many opportunities to study, work and experience Scotland fully and the Dundee Stars are proud to have been chosen to be part of this project to showcase that.
Dr Lissa Monk, of the School of Business commented on the continuation of the strong partnership between the Dundee Stars and University of Dundee:
“Our relationship with the Dundee Stars is a fantastic way for the School of Business to engage with the local community while enriching the experience for our students, by offering full-funded places on our programmes. This direct support helps the Stars attract talented players, leading to more exciting games for the Dundee fans. For the School, these dedicated athletes also bring a unique dynamic to our courses – their discipline and commitment inspire their peers and offer valuable real-world perspectives within their academic studies.”
Jarrett Fiske praised the partnership and commented on how the opportunity will stand him in good stead for when he finishes his professional hockey career and pursues a different career path:
“The partnership with the University of Dundee allowed me to pursue the MSc Management programme which has proven to be extremely valuable to me now and it will offer a lucrative foundation for whatever career path I choose to pursue after hockey.”
After returning to Dundee for a second season, Jarrett was able to attend his graduation at the Caird Hall last week alongside teammate Kameron Kielly who completed the same post-graduate degree.
Everyone at the MKM Dundee Stars is proud of all their student athletes and when players are able to attend their graduation in-person, it makes their partnership even more rewarding.

University of Dundee
Nobel Prize winning poet and honorary graduate Seamus Heaney has described the University of Dundee as ‘having its head in the clouds and its feet firmly on the ground.’ The ability to be both aspirational and down-to earth and to blend ground-breaking intellectual achievement with practical applications, has given the University its distinctive character.
