On Thursday 23 April, from 12pm to 4pm, Abertay University is opening our doors to showcase the creativity, research and impact of our MProf Games Development students. This is a chance to see how innovative game design is being used to engage with themes such as health, heritage, sustainability, education and community life.
Throughout the afternoon, you’ll meet the student teams behind the work, hear about their design and research processes, and get hands‑on with a range of applied games developed in response to live industry briefs. Expect compelling ideas, thoughtful experimentation and plenty of opportunities to play, discuss and connect.
The showcase includes projects encompassing
- Understanding the lived experience of families affected by Huntington’s Disease, through a choice‑based narrative game (in collaboration with the Scottish Huntington’s Association)
- Exploring the historical potato expedition and its relevance to modern agricultural challenges (in collaboration with the James Hutton Institute)
- Youth-led fantasy RPG development as part of employability and skills programmes (in collaboration with BRAG Enterprises)
- Re‑imagining the creation of a utopian post‑war town centre through an architectural design game (in collaboration with the Scottish Design Galleries, V&A Dundee)
- Immersive digital engagement with shipbuilding heritage, including interactive construction and launch experiences (in collaboration with the Scottish Design Galleries, V&A Dundee)
- A cooperative educational experience highlighting decision-making and safety when walking home at night (in collaboration with Abertay Game Lab)
- Showcasing the history of Carnoustie through virtual golf challenges and interactive learning (in collaboration with the Carnoustie Community Development Trust)
The event runs from 12pm - 4pm with light refreshments provided. Space is limited and early bookings are recommended to confirm your space!
