An updated development plan for one Dundee’s best-loved green spaces that could see local people involved in shaping the scheme will be discussed by councillors next week.
A total of £1.5m from the UK Government’s Pride in Place Fund could be used to deliver significant investment in Camperdown Park.
Councillor Mark Flynn, convener of Dundee City Council’s City Governance committee, said: “Improvements to such a huge resource could potentially have a positive impact on everyone in the city, helping to boost inclusive access, improve health and wellbeing and strengthen climate resilience and biodiversity.
“While we will be consulting on improvements that look towards revitalising the main visitor areas following Dundee-themed concepts like maritime heritage, industry and woodland storytelling inspired by Mary Shelley, it is critical to get as many people’s views as possible.
“That’s why much of this year will be taken up with a comprehensive programme of community engagement.”
Dundee City Council was awarded £1.5m from the UK Government’s Pride in Place Fund to support improvements to community and public spaces. The programme is aimed at revitalising communities through long-term, locally driven investment.
If the city governance committee agrees to take the plan forward when it meets on Monday (April 20) discussions will take place around a comprehensive revitalisation of Camperdown’s main visitor areas, which could include:
- comprehensive renewal of the park’s main play zones, including installation of a landmark feature and equipment suitable for all abilities;
- improvements to park entrances, with new signage and wayfinding to help both local people and visitors to access and easily navigate the park and key facilities; and
- futureproofing of infrastructure, with potential upgrades to utilities, connectivity and access routes to support community events and long-term park sustainability.
A further tender report will be brought forward in early 2027, if the committee backs the plan, seeking approval once consultation and designs have been finalised, with work due to completed at Camperdown later that year.

Dundee draws skilled workers from a 60-minute catchment population of 640,000 and has a local population of over 140,000. The availability of a large pool of highly skilled labour is a key feature in the Dundee economy. Flexibility in the labour force is currently more prevalent in Dundee than in Scotland as a whole. All forms of labour market flexibility - part-time, temporary employment, self-employment and shift work - are widely operational within the city. Labour force stability in the city is excellent, enabling companies to plan with confidence. Labour turnover levels are less than 5% and absenteeism averages 2%.
