Castle Water has once again been ranked number one in the UK business water market, reinforcing its position as the leading retailer for billing accuracy and reliable meter readings.
New data from MOSL, the market operator for England’s business water sector, shows that Castle Water topped the rankings for traditional meter reads in February 2026, retaining the number one position it also held in January 2026. Traditional meter reads — which require on-site visits — make up 87% of the total market, making this performance a significant marker of operational excellence.
The ranking comes as businesses across the UK are being urged to demand greater accuracy from their water retailers, with many still at risk of overpaying due to estimated bills or unexpected catch‑up charges. According to industry figures, inaccurate billing remains a widespread issue — but Castle Water’s market‑leading performance highlights that better standards are both possible and achievable.
Leading the Market on Meter Reads and Smart Technology
MOSL’s February 2026 data confirms that Castle Water is doing more than any other retailer to ensure customers are billed on actual usage rather than estimates. The company now serves 32% of the UK market’s smart meters, while 25% of Castle Water’s own meter portfolio is smart-enabled, giving businesses improved read reliability and deeper insight into their water consumption.
This combination of traditional and smart metering has helped Castle Water consistently outperform competitors, with the data showing it as the top-performing large business water retailer for meter reading throughout 2025.
