The Tesco Youth Academy: helping young people develop key skills

We are pleased to announce the UK launch of the Tesco Youth Academy, a new programme to help young people develop the skills they need to succeed in the world of work.

Our research with young people found that while many feel ambitious and optimistic about their future careers, a lack of soft skills, such as confidence, patience and communication, was identified as something which could hold them back.

The Tesco Youth Academy looks to address this by making our soft skills training publicly accessible for young people. As a global retailer responsible for the training and development of over 500,000 colleagues worldwide, we know what skills people need to succeed at work, whether they’re buying apples or developing apps.

The Youth Academy is free to use and includes modules on working well with others, being the best you can be, achieving your goals, building your resilience and making great ideas happen. It makes available free resources that teachers and youth workers can use to run engaging workshops with young people on key soft skills, as well as interactive online activities for young people.

The Youth Academy is about improving skills which young people need in any career and has been developed with education experts and our Young People’s Panel to ensure it meets the needs of young people.

The Youth Academy forms part of our wider work on creating opportunities for young people, which we have made one of our three big corporate responsibility ambitions.
