Deputy Head Teacher

Hours: 35 per week

Salary: £69,371 - £74,429 (SCP 55-58)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Deputy Head Teacher is responsible for the operational leadership, management and continuous improvement of the Education Department within both a secure and residential school and vocational Skills Academy.

Reporting directly to the Service Head of Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, the post-holder will ensure the effective implementation of strategic priorities, delivering high-quality learning, teaching and assessment in line with national expectations and frameworks.

The post-holder will lead on day-to-day educational and vocational delivery, ensuring that practice consistently promotes raising attainment and achievement, wellbeing, inclusion, and positive destinations for all young people. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary environment, ensuring that education provision aligns with care, safeguarding, and wellbeing priorities.

The Deputy Head Teacher will line manage two Principal Teachers and maintain oversight of daily educational delivery, ensuring a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment for young people with complex needs. The role also acts as the operational link to vocational and skills-based provision, including partnership working with, and oversight of, our Skills Academy Coaches. The Deputy Head Teacher will also ensure that all practice reflects key national policies including Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) and the UNCRC.

In addition to the duties required of teaching staff and in supporting the Service Head of Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, the Deputy Head Teacher is responsible for:

  • Providing operational leadership of learning, teaching and assessment, ensuring high-quality, consistent practice across the department
  • Line managing Principal Teachers and leading professional standards, accountability, and continuous professional learning
  • Ensuring the effective implementation of curriculum pathways, including academic, vocational and skills-based learning
  • Ensuring the effective implementation of curriculum, timetabling, and daily delivery of learning
  • Leading robust self-evaluation and quality assurance processes in line with national frameworks
  • Driving improvement in attainment, achievement and positive destinations for young people
  • Embedding GIRFEC principles, safeguarding, and trauma-informed approaches in all aspects of practice
  • Acting as the operational lead for partnerships supporting learner pathways, including Skills Academy provision
  • Supporting the Service Head of Education in ensuring inspection readiness
  • Deputising for the Service Head of Education as required

Principal Teacher

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Principal Teacher is a middle leadership role within the Education Department, responsible for leading curriculum areas and staff teams to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality learning, teaching and assessment.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Head Teacher, the post-holder is accountable for the day-to-day leadership of their specific areas of responsibility and staff, ensuring that departmental expectations are implemented effectively and consistently across all areas of practice. The Principal Teacher will translate strategic and operational priorities into high-quality classroom practice, supporting improved outcomes for young people.

The role has a key focus on raising attainment and achievement, promoting wellbeing and inclusion, and ensuring positive learner pathways. The post-holder will lead and support staff through effective line management, professional learning and quality assurance processes, ensuring that all practice is aligned with national expectations and organisational standards.

Working within a secure and residential setting, the Principal Teacher will contribute to a multi-disciplinary approach, collaborating with education colleagues, residential and secure care staff to ensure a consistent, trauma-informed and child-centred approach to supporting young people.

Forest Schools Co-ordinator

Hours: 35 hours per week.

Salary: £37,315 - £43,368 (SCP 29 - 35)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Forest School Coordinator will lead, develop and manage the Forest School provision within Rossie in both the Secure and Residential forest school settings, with specific responsibility for the design, delivery, assessment and quality assurance of a Forest and Outdoor Learning Award (FOLA) programme.

The post holder will take a strategic and operational lead in embedding high-quality outdoor learning experiences that contribute to the education, attainment and wellbeing of young people. They will work with a high degree of autonomy while collaborating with the Service Head of Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, Principal Teachers and wider educational team to ensure the Forest School programme meets Curriculum for Excellence expectations and awarding body requirements.

The role includes leadership of curriculum design, accreditation processes, staff support, and programme evaluation to ensure a sustainable, high-impact Forest School provision.

  • Lead, manage and deliver high-quality outdoor learning experiences using accredited programmes.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Forest and Outdoor Learning Award (FOLA) programme.
  • Promote and drive improvements in attainment, achievement and accreditation
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with young people, staff, partners and awarding bodies
  • Lead on the management of resources, administration, compliance and quality assurance
  • Take responsibility for health, safety, wellbeing and safeguarding within all Forest School provision
