A brand new trail that brings the scale of our solar system to life has been unveiled in Dundee.
Dundee Science Centre’s Solar System Trail features nine interactive signs installed across the city, with each location representing either the Sun or one of the eight planets.
Beginning at Dundee Science Centre, which represents the Sun, the trail stretches towards Seabraes Bridge, continues along Perth Road and Reform Street, and finishes at The Law. The distance between each sign has been carefully scaled to reflect the relative distances between the planets in our solar system, allowing visitors to experience the vastness of space as they explore the city.
Each sign features a QR code that links to the Dundee Science Centre website, where visitors can discover fascinating facts about the Sun and each planet. The trail also includes a weekly competition, with participants invited to photograph any of the signs and share their images on social media by tagging Dundee Science Centre for the chance to win free entry tickets.
Jill Farrell, Chief Executive Officer, Dundee Science Centre, said, “Science is all around us and, by taking science out into the heart of Dundee, we're encouraging people to get outside together, explore, ask questions and discover more about our place in the universe as they walk around the city. We hope the trail inspires curiosity, gets people talking about space and reminds everyone that science is out there for us all to enjoy!”
Meanwhile, inside Dundee Science Centre, visitors can enjoy FACT or FICTION: Cosmic Chaos throughout the summer, an interactive, game-show style experience where children and families spin a giant wheel to tackle some of the biggest and most intriguing questions in space science - from what would happen if an asteroid hit Earth, to what is the most dangerous thing in the Universe.
