Dundee Museum of Transport has reached another significant milestone in its journey towards a new permanent home at the historic Maryfield Tram Depot, following the award of £247,150 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The funding will support the development of a detailed blueprint for the museum’s future permanent exhibition, helping to shape how the story of Dundee’s transport heritage is told for generations to come. Drawing on a collection of around 5,000 objects, the project will also involve working closely with communities across the city to ensure local voices and experiences are reflected in the visitor experience.
The exhibition development programme will run over 15 months alongside the ongoing conservation and restoration of the Category B-listed Maryfield Tram Depot. Restoration work on the landmark building continues to progress, bringing the museum a step closer to creating a permanent home for its collection.
The latest funding award marks another important stage in the transformation of the depot into a major cultural and visitor attraction for Dundee. Once complete, the new museum will provide a dedicated space to showcase the city’s rich transport history while enhancing opportunities for community engagement, education and tourism.

Dundee Museum of Transport was established in 2010 with the aim of saving and re-developing the site of the former Maryfield Tram Depot. The Museum, currently situated on Market Street in Dundee, opened in 2014 and has become a popular attraction among the City's thriving heritage scene.
