Miller Hendry raises over £8,000 in memory of colleagues

Perthshire legal firm Miller Hendry has raised over £8,000 for Roxburghe House following a sponsored walk held on Saturday 13th June in memory of two colleagues, Eileen Matthew and Jennifer Adams, who sadly passed away in 2014 and 2010 respectively.

Roxburghe House is a hospice for the terminally ill in Dundee where both Eileen and Jennifer spent their last days and benefited greatly from the care and support provided there.

The sponsored walk was organised by Eileen’s husband Alan, who is a partner at the legal firm, along with their daughters, Katherine and Eleanor. The walk started at Auchallater near the Glenshee Ski Centre and progressed along Jocks Road for over 19 kilometres through some spectacular Scottish scenery, finishing at Glen Doll where there was a BBQ for the walkers and sponsors.

So far, and thanks to a particularly generous and tight knit local legal fraternity, it has raised a generous £8,281 so far, including gift aid. This amount is expected to rise further still in the coming days, with donations still coming in.

Alan Matthew commented:

\"The support from friends, colleagues and the local legal community in Perthshire and Tayside has been particularly touching and I\'m personally very grateful to them for choosing to remember Eileen and Jennifer in this way and to generously add to our fundraising efforts.

“The funds raised will help Roxburghe House continue to deliver the excellent support and care to families and individuals at very difficult times in their lives. It is very special indeed. I am very proud to be able to give something back to Roxburghe House for their work in caring for both Eileen and Jennifer in their final weeks.\"

The day before the sponsored walk Alan, his daughter Eleanor and son-in-law Matthew Beaney also took on the challenging Lairig Ghru, from Colyumbridge to the Linn o’ Dee, a 30.5km trek which is popular with many enthusiastic explorers.

He commented:

“Eileen loved the outdoors, so she would have thoroughly enjoyed our sponsored walk. I would also like to thank everyone at Miller Hendry who have dug out their walking shoes for this weekend’s Highland trek and raised money for such a worthy cause.”
