Dundee Science Centre Marketing Manager Moves

Alan Martin, Marketing Manager of Dundee Science Centre, is moving on this month after six successful years in the post.

Dundee Science Centre has become well known in recent years for hosting regular temporary exhibitions and is Dundee's most visited attraction. During Alan's time there visitor numbers increased by 27%, with 2009 being the busiest year ever.

Alan was also responsible for marketing Satrosphere Science Centre in Aberdeen, which in late 2007 had been on the verge of closure. Alan and the management team at Dundee Science Centre were able to step in and reverse the fortunes of the business, and brought the centre back into the black after only 12 months. Satrosphere then went on to record its first ever surplus during the following year and has gone from strength to strength ever since.

Alan is leaving the science centre to dedicate his energies to his new business, Chat Marketing Limited. The company is a marketing consultancy business offering access to the full range of marketing services without the need to recruit a dedicated member of staff. Alan has a particular passion for social media and is providing coaching sessions and organising training events throughout Tayside and beyond.

Alan Martin commented 'Although I will be sad to leave the science centre after spending six amazing years at the attraction, I am absolutely delighted with how quickly my new business has caught on. I think the present economic conditions are such that people realise that they need to be doing more to market their business but don't necessarily have the money or staff to do so, and that is where my business can help'.

Following Alan's departure, Dundee Science Centre's Director of Science Learning and Public Engagement, Hannah Crookes, will assume control of the marketing function at the award-winning centre while the search for a new Communications Manager is undertaken.
