Scottish Government paper aims towards a sustainable Scottish Solution for the future of higher education.

The Scottish Government believes that a vibrant higher education sector is vital to Scotland's long-term prosperity. Since March 2010, the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning has had an ongoing debate with the sector to identify a sustainable and uniquely Scottish solution to the future of higher education. A number of ideas have been raised during these discussions and many of these have now been brought together and have been published in 'Building a Smarter Future: Towards a Sustainable Scottish Solution for the Future of Higher Education'.

A copy of the paper, and a summary document, can be found at http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2010/12/15125728/0 and http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2010/12/15125810/0.

They are keen to hear a wide range of views on the options contained within this paper.  Details on how to respond are included in the paper. Throughout January and February there will be discussion events taking place around Scotland, and details of these events will be issued in the coming weeks.

In addition to requesting views on the options through the formal consultation process, it is possible to participate in the online discussions which will be taking place on the Engage in Education website.
