Innovation, internationalism and inspiration were three of the hot topics at Angus Business Week 2015, which featured five days of events highlighting the possibilities, opportunities and support available to Angus businesses.
The opening event of the week was Business Angus’ popular Business Breakfast, which provided information about realising business potential and trading internationally. “This was a very informative morning,” said Brian Binnie of Denfind Stone near Monikie. “Denfind is currently considering expanding into the overseas market so this was a very relevant and interesting event.”
Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce’s High Noon Lunch was another of the main events in Angus Business Week and featured two high profile speakers: Deputy First Minister John Swinney and Ellis Watson, Chief Executive of publishing company DC Thomson & Co Ltd. During his keynote address, The Deputy First Minister set out his priorities for economic growth, highlighting the importance of innovation and increasing the international reach of Scottish companies. “This is a challenging area but one which can bring great rewards,” stressed John Swinney.
Theresa Wishart, MD of Journeycall, was one of over 100 local business people who attended the High Noon Lunch. “Both talks were very interesting and very topical,” said Theresa. “Every business in Scotland is facing challenges at the moment so events like this, which enable us to bring everything into focus and to network with other local companies, are very helpful.”
Angus Business Week drew to a close with the International Strategy Forum, which provided an insight into the support available for local companies hoping to move into the global market place. “Angus Business Week has been very good for local businesses,” said Karen Nicoll, Deputy Managing Director of DJ Laing (Contracts) Ltd. “As an Angus business person, I really appreciated having such a variety of events to choose from, such a high calibre of speaker and such a wealth of information and support readily available.”
Angus Council’s Business Angus was one of the partners in Angus Business Week. “The second Angus Business Week provided local businesses of all sizes and from a wide variety of industries with information, support and advice to help them invest, work, grow and thrive,” said Alison Smith, head of Business Angus. “Angus is definitely open for business.”
