It’s All Happening in Angus!

With spring now officially here, it’s time to make plans for summer days out and weekends away – and Angus is the perfect easy-to-reach destination, with a host of great events happening throughout the year.

The Angus 2016 what’s on list kicks off with an appetite-whetting, week-long foodie event which showcases the very best of local produce and producers. The Taste of Angus’ Spring Fling, which is from 19-27 March, celebrates all that’s fabulous about Angus food and drink, with workshops, demos, tastings, special menus, a food market, cook and eat sessions and lots of family fun.

Music features strongly in the Angus events calendar, too. The 10th anniversary of Bon Fest will have Kirriemuir rocking at the end of April, especially as the weekend of ACDC celebrations will include the unveiling of a new statue of Bon Scott, the Kirriemuir-born lead singer of the famous heavy metal band.

Montrose Music Festival – MoFest - in May features another strong line-up, with Jools Holland heading the bill, while June sees a new addition to the Angus events programme with the first Festival of House, a dance music extravaganza taking place in the stunning surroundings of Panmure Estate, near Carnoustie. However, music of a more traditional kind will be to the fore in September, when Kirriemuir Traditional Music Festival will attract top Scottish and folk singers and musicians to the town.

2016 is Scotland’s Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design and Angus Open Studios in May will provide opportunities to watch local artists and designers at work. And in July, with both Harley Davidson and Buick Motor Company founded by innovators with roots in this corner of Scotland, The Scottish Transport Extravaganza at Glamis Castle and Brechin’s Harley in the City weekend are must-visit events for car and motorbike enthusiasts.

Angus provides almost unrivalled opportunities to get outside and the excellent hillwalking terrain forms the basis for the Angus Glens Walking Festival 2016, 18 walks for all abilities and fitness levels which takes place at the beginning of June. Other Angus events with an emphasis on the great outdoors include The Senior Open Championship at Carnoustie in July and Angus Cycling Festival in September, which is a great excuse to get on your bike!

The heritage and history of Angus comes under the spotlight in 2016. Arbroath Sea Fest will celebrate the town’s maritime links in August and, a month later, Angus Heritage Week will provide opportunities to find out more about the people, places, trades, industries, secrets and mysteries of the county.
