A major event based around the famous Scottish comic book character Oor Wullie promises to be a big attraction when it arrives in Dundee’s Overgate this weekend.

Taking place on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st July, 11am – 4pm, the all-ages free event is guaranteed to appeal to fans of Scotland’s iconic favourite son…and everyone is invited!

A flagship Oor Wullie-themed character installation within Overgate, supported by Oor Wullie helpers in costume, will keep children and adults alike entertained with a fantastic range of activities. These include:

Musical buckets – fun homage to Oor Wullie with trademark Oor Wullie buckets replacing chairs

Find Oor Wullie – a self-led trail to find 10 posters located around the centre - within retailers and on set - and answer questions about each poster to win a prize

Count the conkers in Oor Wullie’s bucket – guess correctly within 10 conkers and win a lolly   Spot Jeemy – find Oor Wullie’s pet mouse on the set

Bash McKenzie - catapult game with bean bags - children will use catapults to practice their aim, pinging beanbags into metal buckets.

Across the weekend, children will also have the fantastic opportunity to try their hand at being a cartoonist.    A giant 8-foot cartoon light-box will be on the Oor Wullie set allowing budding young artists the chance to make their own cartoon using a tracing light-box. Pens and paper will be supplied to draw around the cartoon strip characters and to colour in. The finished artwork, on Overgate branded paper, can then be taken home by the children as a lasting memento.

What’s more, with demonstrations from professional cartoonist James Glen, young budding artists are sure to find these exchanges both inspirational and educational.

Speaking ahead of this weekend, Malcolm Angus, Overgate Centre Manager of Overgate said,

“Overgate is delighted to be the official headquarter for the Oor Wullie Bucket Trail, supporting The Archie Foundation. The iconic Oor Wullie sculptures located within the centre, and currently being painted by artists to spectacular effect, are proving a major attraction. This weekend’s Oor Wullie Takeover will be an unmissable free event appealing to all ages, and another landmark moment in the Tayside Children’s Hospital Appeal. We hope everyone will come and join us at Overgate.
