Henderson Loggie teams up with Scotland’s new gaming festival

28th July 2016

Henderson Loggie, one of Scotland’s leading independent accountancy firms, has signed up to support a pioneering three day gaming festival taking place in Glasgow this weekend. Resonate Total Gaming runs from July 29th to 31st at the SECC and will showcase the work of Scotland’s newest indie developers alongside some of the biggest names in e-sports and games development.

With 25 years creative industry experience, the specialist team at Henderson Loggie has earned a reputation as the leading go-to business advisers for ambitious gaming companies in Scotland and beyond. Advising growing companies on tax and financial strategy, Henderson Loggie has successfully claimed £0.65 million in Video Games Tax Relief for sector clients since it was introduced two years ago.

Henderson Loggie partner and creative media specialist Steve Cartwright said: “We are pleased to sponsor Resonate Indie the Indie section at Resonate, and are excited to meet some of the future stars of the worldwide gaming industry.  We are in the fortunate position to have grown up with the industry in Scotland, building up vast sector knowledge over quarter of a century, and we are proud to have helped some of the country’s success stories from start-up through to international expansion.’

“The introduction of Video Games Tax Relief in 2014 has been a welcome boost for businesses, yet although it is gathering momentum, not all companies are aware that they may be able to claim an additional deduction of 80% of qualifying production costs. This can be surrendered for cash at a rate of 25%.”

Industry body TIGA, which represents the video games sector in the UK, has issued a call to UK Government to retain and improve Video Games Tax Relief to give UK companies competitive advantage in the global economy. As well as increasing the level of tax relief from 25% to 30%, TIGA suggests removing the cultural test which currently a game has to pass to qualify for tax relief.

Fran McIntyre, Managing Director of Resonate organisers QD Events, said: “We are delighted that Henderson Loggie is on board as a key supporter of Resonate Indie. The firm is well known for its expertise in the UK gaming industry and we look forward to welcoming the team at what is shaping up to be an exciting weekend that will cement Scotland’s position in the vanguard of video games development globally.”

Henderson Loggie, which has offices in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow, was a finalist in the Tax and Accountancy category at this year’s prestigious TIGA games industry awards in recognition of excellent accountancy work, sound business processes and excellent commercial results.
