Following a term that saw the institution shortlisted as one of the UK’s top six universities in the Times Higher (THE)University of the Year award, Principal Nigel Seaton congratulated students, academics and staff on their achievements.
The University awarded Scottish tennis coach, Judy Murray with an Honorary Doctorate of Education for her contribution to sport and ongoing initiatives to improve accessibility to tennis.
Judy, a passionate advocate of the opportunities that tennis can provide will see her sons Jamie and Andy Murray make history when the year-end results are released on Monday as the first brothers to top the world tennis rankings at the same time.
She was joined by best-selling author and journalist, Matthew Syed and influential video games composer and musician, Rob Hubbard.

Former Olympic athlete and sports writer Matthew Syed was recognised by Abertay for his work on the science of high performance. The themes of Matthew’s critically acclaimed book, ‘Black-Box Thinking’ are now being followed by the NHS, schools and police authorities.
Musician and composer Rob Hubbard is known for his break-through work writing and programming computer game music in the 1980s, scoring the music for over 75 video games. He was the first in-house audio specialist at Electronic Arts in America and thirty years on is still considered an influential figure in the development of the video games industry.
The Chancellor of Abertay University, Lord Cullen conferred the Honorary Degrees along with 200 new Abertay graduates at the ceremony in Dundee’s Caird Hall.
