A young man was given a birthday present to remember, as he visited Celtic Park for the first time to see his team play against Motherwell, watching them win with a 2-0 victory.
This was the first time 18-year-old Wayne McArthur, who lives with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, has been able to attend a Celtic match. His condition means he is wheelchair dependant and relies on a ventilator 24 hours a day to help his breathing.
Wayne, who has been a resident at Balhousie Antiquary Care Home in Abroath since November 2016, was delighted with the surprise gift, which was organised by Balhousie Care Group Chairman Tony Banks. As a fellow Celtic fan and season ticket holder, Tony was delighted that Wayne was finally able to see his beloved Celtic play.
Wayne was accompanied to the match with two of his carers, Moyra Paton and Aileen Swankie and spent the afternoon in an exclusive box with fellow Celtic fan, Kevin Bridges. Speaking of the memorable day, Moyra commented:
\"It was a fantastic day and one which I\'m sure Wayne will always remember. He watches Celtic play on the television when he can and he was thrilled to finally get the chance to go to Celtic Park and to see his team win was the icing on the cake.\"
Louise Barnett, Director of Operations at Balhousie Care Group, added:
\"We\'re thrilled Wayne got the opportunity to go see his team play. Many take going to a football match for granted but for Wayne it was such a special occasion, we\'re sure he will cherish the memories for years to come.\"
