New venture for Montrose sail maker

An Angus family firm that has been operating for almost 230 years is branching out with a new venture.

Montrose Rope & Sail has spent generations producing and supplying rope and sail cloth for the marine industry.

In more recent years it developed a range of kit bags for use in the North Sea oil and gas sector.

It has now taken that idea a step further to focus on the wider consumer marketplace with the launch of the Montrose Bag Company.

The new range is made from waterproof PVC and produced at the group\'s workshop in the Angus town which lends the firm its name.

General Manager Rudi Wyper said the move was led by demand.

He said: \"Over the last 40 years countless offshore workers have come to depend on us for specialised kit bags and backpacks that are durable, versatile and reliable.

\"However, time and time again we\'ve been asked to make our unique range available to the wider public.

\"This demand led us to invest in technology at the forefront of textile manufacturing allowing us to create a more consumer-led range where the quality and durability we\'re known for is matched by the slick design of our products, that can be used in everyday life.\"
