Acting students got their big break on Dundee’s very own feature film Schemers and much of that is down to training with Elaine Newton from the city’s very own ‘Acting Lab’.
Elaine, (pictured centre), a graduate from the RSAMD (now Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) also trained in Paris and Los Angeles and has brought her retinue of acting skills back to Dundee.
Elaine said yesterday ‘Schemers is an intense and exciting experience and I’m delighted that some of our very own Acting Lab students have passed the auditions and are getting a brilliant opportunity to act on camera’.
Elaine who has also landed a major part in the film runs acting classes from Abertay University and her brand-new beginners class started on Saturday 6th May and runs for 8 weeks. Places are still available and newcomers are welcome. Budding film stars need no experience and they’re guaranteed to have fun in a safe and welcoming environment while gaining confidence and banishing stage fright.
Schemers*, directed and co-written by Kyle Tittertonis about the world of music promotion in the seventies and eighties. The film is set in Dundee and the script was originally penned by Dundee born Dave Mclean based on his own exploits as a music promoter. Filming is expected to continue in the City of Discovery for the next five weeks.

* Based on real events and people Schemers is a heady mix of Gregory’s Girl’s laconic confidence, the anarchic freewheeling punky energy of Trainspotting, the charm of Local Hero and something quintessentially Dundonian. It promises to be fast, fun, funny, dangerous, sexy, poignant and dazzling.
