Thorntons - Absence Management

Published

29th May 2017

Recent figures from the ONS have reported that, during 2016, 137 million working days in the UK were lost to workplace absence - this equates to 4.3 days per worker.  It will therefore come as no surprise that days lost to sickness absence cost the UK economy millions in reduced productivity every year.  With the government setting its focus on supporting employers to create and promote healthy work environments, employers are encouraged to focus their attention on effective practices.  By creating the right environment, which minimises the likelihood of employees being off sick, as well as supporting them to return to work, absences can be prevented, and the cost to your business as a consequence will be far less.

To help your business reduce absences, the Employment Law team at Thorntons can train your line managers on managing absences effectively.  Debbie Fellows, Employment Law Partner at Thorntons comments, “Each of our absence management workshops is hosted by one of our specialist lawyers and is a half-day session, lasting approximately 3 hours.  The sessions are practical and interactive, providing training on legal responsibilities and best practice, as well as working through case studies to give attendees an opportunity to put what they have learned into practice. Generally the content is aimed at line managers but can be tailored according to your business’ needs”.

The Employment Law team is currently offering an introductory offer of £600 (+VAT) per session (usually priced at £750 (+VAT)).  To be eligible for the introductory offer, you must be enrolled to attend a training workshop by 30 June 2017.

“Our specialist lawyers host training sessions for clients on a regular basis and absence management is just one of a collection of workshops that the team can provide”, says Debbie.  Examples of other training the team can offer include:

-       Performance Management

-       Managing Grievances and Disciplinaries

-       Equality and Diversity

-       Recruitment and Selection

-       Social Media in the Workplace

-       Managing Redundancies
