Clark Thomson Insurance Brokers have raised a phenomenal £21,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support in Tayside.

Clark Thomson is Scotland’s largest independent insurance broker, with 9 offices across Scotland and over 200 staff acting on behalf of thousands of private and commercial clients. In 2016, they began their first ever charity partnership with Macmillan Cancer support, with the goal to raise £10,000.

When the partnership began, Clark Thomson set some clear objectives, all of which have been achieved.

• To encourage employee engagement across the firm’s 9 offices, several of which are remotely located.

• To fulfil the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy, in particular charitable giving, which is part of the firm’s culture.

• To give something back - partners and staff had first-hand experience of the vital support offered by Macmillan.

Co-ordinated by the firms Charity Committee which is based within the marketing and communications department at their head office in Perth, staff and clients engaged in a wide range of fundraising activities including: the ultimate Tough Mudder challenge; bake sales and Christmas jumper days across all 9 offices; a golf day attended by several partners as well as staff; a delicious pizza lunch afternoon and 2 very brave ladies completed a sponsored bungee jump.

The partnership ended with the ultimate fundraising activity, a Charity Ball. With staff, commercial partners, and clients of over 200 in attendance a staggering £10,000 was raised. The fundraising activity that took place across the organisation successfully raised an incredible £21,000, smashing the original target that was set!

The money raised will help Macmillan fund vital services across Tayside, such as ‘Move More Dundee’, a programme of activity to help people living with cancer get moving and become more active, the Macmillan Benefits Service which last year helped people in Tayside who were affected by cancer unlock more than £3.4 million in benefits they were entitled too, and The Dundee and Angus libraries project, Macmillan are creating Information & Support hubs in libraries where local people will receive emotional support, cancer information, counselling, complimentary therapies and a listening ear.

Morna Strachan, Communications and Marketing Manager at Clark Thomson said ““It is with great pleasure that I am delighted on behalf of CTIB to be handing over such a phenomenal amount of money to Macmillan Cancer Support Scotland. The staff at CTIB have all worked so hard to raise money with all the various activities they have been involved in as teams or as individuals and we are so proud that we have achieved £20k for Macmillan Cancer Support Scotland. Ailsa and the rest of the Macmillan team supported all our activities and ensured our year of fundraising for Macmillan went incredible smoothly.”
