Xplore Dundee is urging Dundee festival-goers to plan ahead for a smooth journey to Carnival Fifty Six.
The bus operator is reminding people who are planning to attend the city’s biggest event of the summer, that travel wristbands are now available to pre-book for its dedicated festival shuttle bus, Service 56, which will operate directly between the City Centre and Camperdown non-stop during the two-day festival.
Elsie Turbyne, Managing Director of Xplore Dundee said:
“We think a lot of people are hoping to simply catch a regular timetabled bus to and from Camperdown for Carnival Fifty-Six, but this could lead to busy bus stops, overcrowded vehicles and delays to journeys. “That’s why we’re operating the Number 56, which is the best way to travel to this special event – it will only run between the city centre and Camperdown throughout the whole weekend, and it can be booked in advance, which means there’s no need to worry about arranging a lift or a taxi.
“Not only that but the shuttle will also run later than our last timetabled buses, so you can enjoy the festival fun for longer.”
Travel wristbands are available now – for a day or for the whole weekend. There’s a special discounted fare for anyone with a valid Weekly, Monthly or Direct Debit pass. Xplore Dundee is urging festival goers to beat the queues and buy in advance, either from the Travel Centre in Commercial Street or to have their wristbands posted directly to them by ordering online at nxdiscovrit.com.
The bus operator is an official travel partner for the festival, which takes place on 12th and 13th August at Camperdown Park. The dedicated shuttle bus, Service 56, will provide regular transport from two city centre locations, and will be the only bus available returning to the city centre in the late evening and into the small hours of the morning. The service will run between 10am and 1.30am on the two days, with pick up points at Greenmarket (next to the Science Centre) and Ward Road (at The Howff/opposite the Post Office).
The music line-up for this highlight of the summer calendar includes Basement Jaxx, Clean Bandit and Mark Ronson.
Full details of times, prices and travel wristband options can be found online via Xplore Dundee’s website and social media pages, or by enquiring at the Travel Centre in Commercial Street.
For those travelling from a bit further outside the city, Xplore Dundee’s colleagues in the coach division will also be providing transport directly to Camperdown Park for Carnival Fifty Six both Saturday and Sunday. Coaches will be travelling from Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Livingstone, Perth and Stirling, and tickets can be bought as singles, day returns, and weekend returns Saturday-Sunday. Coaches will arrive on site at 11am and will depart at 11:30pm. For groups of four or more, National Express coach is offering a 25% discount to the total journey cost.
As Dundee's principal public transport provider, we fulfill around 35,000 passenger journeys every day. Our service is part of the fabric of the city - carrying people where they need to be, and employing more than 300 people.
