Christmas Magic Arrives at Overgate in Dundee

It’s the most magical time of the year and Overgate in Dundee is guaranteeing an extra special Christmas this year with the announcement of its in-centre festive activity.

Nothing says Christmas is coming quite like Overgate’s unmissable Santa’s Grotto. This year from the 15th to the 23rd of December between 11am - 4pm, in a very special Overgate exclusive, SANTAGRAM will arrive in the centre, bringing Christmas cheer to young and old and groups large or small.

Join Santa and his Elf helpers as they welcome excited children and adults into the magical SANTAGRAM igloo. Entering through a white arched set, decked with giant snowflakes, bauble-adorned Christmas trees, penguins and colourful beanbags, the igloo will dazzle with ‘Northern Lights’ style effects around the edge, which change colour and create a truly magical experience.

Within the set, an OFF AIR / ON AIR sign indicates when Santa is available, at which point an elf will escort the visitors inside the igloo. Once there, Santa will greet the visitors and invite them to record a short Christmas video message with himself at a photo booth. These personalised video messages can be sent to friends, relatives or work colleagues. Santa will also be happy to pose for selfies and a box of dressing up props will help spread the Christmas cheer further!

SANTAGRAM is open to the public daily from the 15th of December and admission is free.

Augmenting Overgate’s festive offering will be the arrival of Urban Food Fest, a warming wintery street food market which will be at Overgate on the 15th, 16th and 17th of December. With a fabulous line up of street food trucks offering BBQ, Mac ‘n’ Cheese, Duck, Chicken, Burgers, Stew, Crepes, Waffles and Mulled Drinks, plus vibrant stalls and vintage furniture seating, the festive market will be located just outside Costa, between the centre and The Steeple, and promises an extra special enhancement to Overgate’s already tempting food and drink proposition.

Elsewhere, Late Night Christmas Shopping Nights will see retailers open until 9pm on Thursday 7th, 14th and 21st of December as well as extended hours mid-week and also Sundays for the final countdown.

Putting further fun into festive, and launching on Friday 8th of December through Overgate.co.uk, will be an interactive game offering participants the chance to win an overnight stay at either Malmaison in Dundee or Hotel du Vin in St Andrews. A host of other fantastic prizes are up for grabs weekly too across Overgate’s social media including fragrances, homeware and delicious edibles from Debenhams. And don’t forget to strike the pose on the Overgate Throne, in between shopping, as well as in the Golden Shoe, both adjacent to the upper floor Debenhams main entrance.

In keeping with the season of goodwill, the Help for Kids Giving Tree will once again be located outside Debenhams, beside the Overgate Throne on the upper mall. Public gift donations will be collated at the tree before being distributed by the Help for Kids team. Last year over £10,000 worth of gifts were collected and distributed by the Social Work Department on behalf of the charity, and through the generosity of the public a similar achievement is hoped for this Christmas.

Overgate staff and retailers including NCP and Boots are also set to embrace Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 15th December with all charitable proceeds going to Help for Kids.
