Bus company braced for bad weather
• Safety is top priority - buses will run according to road conditions

Xplore Dundee is reassuring customers it will do its best to keep the city moving throughout this week’s predicted Siberian cold snap.

Weather forecasters say we’re in for several days of snow, ice and sub-zero temperatures, which may affect roads and travel plans.

Managing Director Elsie Turbyne said: “We are putting preparations in place for the expected harsh winter weather. Safety is our number one priority so we will be guided by the weather and road conditions during the next few days. Our drivers are trained to consider safety first and will not put passengers at risk if they believe a route to be hazardous.

“I want to reassure customers that we will do our best to keep the city moving this week, as much as it is possible to do so safely. Please bear with us if there is some disruption to your regular services and do let us know if there are travel problems in your area of the city which we might not be aware of.”

Dundee’s main bus operator is prepared for extreme weather conditions and will only alter or remove buses from service when it’s considered unsafe to keep vehicles running. During spells of heavy snow and ice managers constantly monitor road and weather conditions and keep in close contact with drivers across the network.

Services are changed or withdrawn only if road conditions become unsafe to customers and drivers; this may mean buses will avoid untreated side roads and stick only to main routes visited by the council’s snowploughs and gritters.

Xplore Dundee will keep the public updated on any changes to regular service – any disruption will be communicated via social media and local radio. Customers are advised to listen to Radio Tay or Wave 102 and to keep an eye on Facebook, Twitter and the Xplore Dundee website, which will all carry the most up-to-date travel information.
