Get Ready To Savour The Flavours of Angus

With the Taste of Angus Festival 2018 only a couple of weeks away, foodies across the country will soon be tucking into lots of delicious treats!

The Taste of Angus Festival runs from 19-25 March and features a range of ways to enjoy fabulous fresh produce from the fields, glens and waters of Angus, first class dishes by top chefs and award-winning drinks. From a ghost walk featuring a frighteningly good meal to a pie, gin and beer tasting evening, there’s something for everyone, including several events aimed at young food fans.

The WeeCOOKIES Pie Making Masterclasses taking place during the Taste of Angus Festival proved so popular, chef and head pie-maker Hayley Wilkes added an extra date – but it’s now sold out, too! “It’s great to see so much interest in baking amongst the children and young people of Angus,” said Hayley. “The next generation of Angus chefs will certainly be cooking up a storm in years to come!”

On the afternoons of 22, 24 and 25 March, Louise Nicoll and her family are throwing open the gates of their farm, which is near Forfar. “We’ve decided to hold our Down On The Farm tours during the Taste of Angus Festival to educate younger visitors about where food comes from,” said Louise, who explained that the tour costs £7.50 per adult, with one child free per paying adult.

“The tour involves meeting Newton Farm’s friendly animals, including cows, sheep, goats, alpacas and Lucy, our micropig. Hopefully, there will also be tiny lambs and calves – sometimes our visitors are able to bottlefeed the lambs.”

The Taste of Angus Festival was established by Taste of Angus in 2012 to promote the excellent food and drink of Angus. “Angus has an enviable reputation for its food and drink,” said Alison Smith, head of Angus Council’s Economic Development, which manages Taste of Angus. “The Taste of Angus Festival is a wonderful opportunity to further enhance our county’s status as one of the best areas to eat and drink in Scotland.”
