The inaugural Menu Food & Drink Awards are taking place on Thursday 15th March and an impressive number of Angus businesses have made the shortlist. Held at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews, the Awards are organised by DC Thomson Events to celebrate the very best in food & drink and culinary talent across ‘Courier Country’. A panel of expert judges had a difficult task choosing from the wide range of entries but have now made their decision and drawn up a list of finalists including Angus businesses:

• Artisana – Street Food Vendor of the year
• Wild & Smoky – Street Food Vendor of the year
• Gordon’s Restaurant – Fine Dining Restaurant
• Garry Watson (Gordon’s Restaurant) – Chef of the year
• Gin Bothy – Craft Drinks Producer of the year
• Mackays – Local to Global
• Lewis Pickett (WeeCOOK Kitchen) – New Talent/Rising Star
• Three Bellies Brae, Kirriemuir – Pub of the Year

“I am delighted at the Angus representation at this year’s Awards”, said Councillor Ron Sturrock, spokesperson for food and drink at Angus Council. “The list of finalists demonstrates the breadth of the sector in our area, from fine dining and world class chef skills to slow cooked BBQ and jam being imported all over the world. This is a thriving sector for us in Angus, and I wish the best of luck to all our finalists on the night.”

Finalist Ailsa Hayward, owner of mobile patisserie Artisana which has been shortlisted for Street Food Vendor of the Year said, “I am delighted to be a finalist at the Menu Food and Drink Awards. Street Food has grown in popularity massively in the past few years and it’s great to see our contribution to the food and drink sector being recognised in this way. Fingers crossed we are lucky enough to be winners on the night.”

“We are very proud of our Angus roots and these awards are a fantastic way of celebrating all that is good in local food and drink,” added Kim Cameron, owner of The Gin Bothy. “Whoever the winners are on the night we are there to support each other. In Angus we are lucky to have award winning producers and hopefully we will soon have even more!”

The awards will be hosted by Jak O’Donnell, owner chef of the Two Sisters Restaurants in Glasgow. Top chefs from the area will be preparing a course each for the gala dinner, including Eden Sinclair, owner chef of Sinclair’s Larder near Forfar, who will be preparing dessert.
