Michelin Training Centre hosts successful apprentice open event and now accepting applications for budding engineers.

A special event to promote apprenticeship training was held recently at Michelin’s Training Centre in Dundee as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week and over 150 people took a tour of the engineering training facilities on Baldovie Road in Dundee.

Jim Marr of Aerospace Turbine Services said: “I came to see if the type of machinery was compatible with ours and look forward to finding out about working in partnership with Michelin.”

Mike Spink an electrical service supervisor at NOV who trained at Michelin as an apprentice said the tour brought back memories of his own training and that alongside his colleague Stewart that they looked forward to working in collaboration with the tyre manufacturer.
Nathan Edwards, 18 attended the open afternoon to find out about becoming an apprentice and said:

“I had applied to Michelin for a production role previously but am now considering a career in engineering and it has been good to see the facilities.”

Training and development instructor and centre co-ordinator Craig Reid said: “This is the first year the Training Centre has opened its doors to the public.

“The feedback we have received is fantastic and people have been impressed by the facilities available as well as the additional benefits a company like Michelin offers in terms of training.

“We are now accepting applications for apprenticeships and I hope we have inspired those who visited to pursue a career within engineering.”

Over 400 apprentices have been trained at the Michelin Training Centre since 1971, many who now work within the factory as engineers.
Over 150 apprentices have been taught engineering skills for other organisations across Dundee, Angus and Fife with the centre looking to increase its capacity further.
