Residents and staff at Balhousie Lisden Care Home are set to have a very special Easter Sunday as they welcome some friendly Miniature Shetland Ponies.

This is the first time the Kirriemuir care home has had a visit from the ponies which is sure to bring a smile to the faces of many residents, relatives and staff. Following the visit, residents will enjoy a tombola, some egg decorating followed by an Easter egg hunt.

Provided by Therapy Ponies Scotland, the miniature ponies offer therapeutic benefits to people with dementia, mobility challenges, anxiety, depression and learning difficulties. They are trained to walk beside wheelchairs, go in lifts and on stair lifts, as well as interact with people.

Madeana Laing, Care Home manager at Balhousie Lisden, commented:
“We are very excited to be meeting some of the beautiful Miniature Shetland Ponies from Therapy Ponies Scotland this Easter weekend. Animal therapy brings so much joy and comfort to people, so we are all really looking forward to seeing the residents’ reaction when they arrive.”
