ANGUSalive, the culture, sports and leisure trust for Angus, invites you to come and visit the charity’s Forfar museum this summer as it welcomes some Dundee comic favourites!

In celebration of the 80th anniversary of the much-loved DC Thomson comic Beano, The Meffan Museum & Art Gallery, Forfar is delighted to have original material on loan from DC Thomson’s archive. Vintage comic strips will be on display from 7 July - 15 September and will include 1950s’ Minnie the Minx art work, Dennis in his 1970s’ form and the tale of his right-hand-dog Gnasher as well as former Beezer favourites, ‘The Numbskulls’.

Lesley Stewart, Museum Officer, The Meffan Museum & Art Gallery, commented: “Dennis and Gnasher and pals are creating some mischief across our museum this summer, come and see what these Mischief Makers have been up to from Saturday 7 July. The exhibition itself provides a rare opportunity to see a back catalogue of these naughty and amusing characters in Angus. Pop in and marvel at some original cartoon illustrations and while you’re here, why not create your very own comic strip to capture your inner illustrator.”

To enhance the exhibition, The Meffan Museum & Art Gallery is appealing for old comics, annuals, figures or any other objects relating to DCThomson’s Dandy or Beano, please call 01307 476482, email ForfarMuseum@angusalive.scot, message their Facebook page or pop in to see them at 20 West High Street, Forfar. The museum is open Tuesday – Saturday, 10am-5pm and admission to the museum and exhibition is free.

The Mischief at the Meffan Exhibition complements ANGUSalive Libraries’ Scavenger Hunt this summer. Run as part of the Tesco Bank Summer Reading

Challenge, scavengers have to look for clues across ANGUSalive Libraries, Museums & Galleries and Sport & Leisure centres this summer. Your child can help Dennis, Gnasher and friends explore Beanotown to find mysterious buried treasure with tons of fun along the way! Pop into your local library or visit their Facebook page for more information.
