With the arrival of ‘Penguinstein’ - our newest Chamber resident- it seemed only fair that we throw a welcome party for him and what a fantastic day it was! Saturday saw our DACC offices transform into a haven for kids of all ages for our Maggie’s Penguin Fun Day with a bouncy castle, face painting, arts & crafts and even some giant penguin mascots.
'Penguinstein' is just 1 of 80 penguin sculptures dotted around the region this summer, in an effort to raise awareness and money for the Maggie's Centre.
Maggie’s Centres provide free practical, social and emotional support for people with cancer and their families and friends offering a programme of support that has been shown to strengthen physical and emotional wellbeing. It’s a place to find practical advice about benefits and eating well; a place where qualified experts provide emotional support; a place to meet other people or simply sit with a cup of tea.
The Maggies Centre costs £540,000 per year to run and their aim for the parade is to raise enough money to open their doors for a year.
With the support of our fantastic Co-Sponsors, we were able to welcome our new resident penguin to the Chamber last week where he will stay for the duration of the penguin trail this Summer. Here at the Chamber, we like to celebrate in style, so we of course had to throw a party to give everyone the chance to meet him.
'Penguinstein' was a massive hit with kids and adults alike with over 250 people dropping in to visit throughout the day. With the kids enjoying the bouncy castle, arts & crafts, and face painting, the adults were able to enjoy our fabulous food and drink. A massive thankyou goes to Dundee International Womens Centre, Scott Brothers Butchers & Nicattos for their support.
A welcome surprise during the event was the arrival of 2 penguin mascots, kindly brought in by Broughty Ferry Gala Week. They provided a great deal of entertainment for everyone and were a perfect addition to our penguin themed event! A big thanks to our photgrapher 4xM photography for capturing this shot of Skipper and Private, they had a very busy afternoon!
Dundee & Angus College arrived with their CommuniTay Bus and provided arts & crafts activities and Beauty Therapy treatments.
At the opposite end of the quay we had FoxLake continuing on the fun with their Ringo Rides. With the sun shining, it was the perfect activity to have fun and cool off.
