The Dundee Professional Services event, the sixth qualifier of Scotland’s national business five-a-side tournament saw a further 3 teams qualify for the national final.
Supported by the Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce the teams had all been fundraising for various charities and their efforts took Business Fives passed the half way mark of their summer target as they bid to raise over £25,000 for charity this summer.
The notable contribution came from eventual winners Intona who raised £210 for Cash for Kids Radio Tay who also benefitted from the winter season, a positive omen for them going into the final. Semi finalists MTC media also raised a significant £180 for the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance in the run up to the event.
The tournament was a high standard affair with plenty of goals scored, 111 to be exact, a memorable goal from Chris Robertson which was the 5,000th time the net rippled at a Business Fives event.
Intona, Kilmac, Apex Hotels and Insights made up the champions league section semi final line up. It was Kilmac who found their scoring form to beat Apex Hotels 5-1 with Intona overcoming Insights 4-2 in the adjacent semi-final fixture to set up a repeat of the opening group game.
It was Intona who had to come from behind after Kilmac opened the scoring, helped by top goal scorer Matt Ramsay they managed to find an extra gear to take them into a 2-1 lead. There slender lead was preserved by heroics by their keeper Fraser Tosh, who was chosen by ambassador Rab Douglas as his man of the match in the final, no surprise the former Scotland, Dundee and Celtic shop stopper picked out the man between the sticks.
Both Kilmac and Intona sealed their place in the national final and there was a further place up for grabs for the final in Edinburgh on 26th September via the Europa League section. The semi-final line up was M3 Networks, SP Technology, Outplay and mtc Media.
M3 Networks came through another tight match against mtc Media winning by a margin of just one goal as they did in the group phase. SP Technology overcame Outplay 3-1 in a match that saw another great goalkeeping display to keep the Outplay side in the game.
The final was a close encounter with both sides defending well but it was the SP Technology team who found the net when it mattered after some end to end football with the game finishing 1-0.
The action heads further north to Aberdeen on Friday 17th August with the final qualifying event in Edinburgh when the Professional Services sector meets on Tuesday August 21st.
