Xplore Dundee is urging people to get on board for the city’s upcoming cultural events.

• Concert-goers urged to hop on board the bus
• Diversions in place for high-profile events

The bus company is preparing for two weekends of increased activity in and around the city centre and reminding customers of diverted routes.

Saturday 9th September is the date of the latest concert at Slessor Gardens, headlined by Simple Minds; the following weekend hundreds of visitors are expected in the city to celebrate the opening of V&A Dundee.

Managing Director of Xplore Dundee Christine McGlasson said, ”We’re expecting an influx of people into the area in the coming days and we are ready for them. We have the capacity to carry large numbers of people quickly and efficiently around our city – making it easier for everyone. If more people catch the bus to these big events, there’s less traffic on the roads and fewer delays.

“This is Dundee’s big moment and although we’re facing some travel disruption because of the road closures, we’re ready and willing to keep Dundee moving and play our part in making the ongoing programme of concerts and the V&A opening weekend a huge success for the city.”

Christine McGlasson said: “We know that V&A opening weekend will be extremely busy and we would ask customers to please bear with us if they do experience delays, but I would urge people to get on board with us and catch the bus to these special events – don’t add to the traffic by bringing your car, come into town with us and enjoy great value travel .

On Sunday 9 September, the Shore Terrace bus-way will be closed to accommodate the Simple Minds concert at Slessor Gardens. Diversions will commence at 1430 and will remain in place until last bus.

An additional closure will take effect the following weekend (Friday 14 & Saturday 15 September) for the opening of the V&A. Diversions will begin at 1430 on the Friday and last until 1900 on the Saturday.
These closures come at the joint request of Police Scotland and Dundee City Council for health and safety reasons. As a result, buses will be diverted via Ward Road (in both directions). City Centre ambassadors will be available at interchange locations to provide directions and assistance.

Full details of road closures and diversions for the Slessor Gardens concert and V&A opening weekend are listed on Xplore Dundee’s website (xploredundee.com) and social media feeds - or customers can call into the Travel Centre to chat with Customer Service Advisers.
