Educational publisher ranks university highly.

The survey by Quacquarelli Symonds has placed the university 58th in the world for medicine and 66th for biological sciences. The ranking is based on a number of criteria, including academic reputation and the number of times papers by the establishment's researchers were cited by other scientists.

Principal Professor Pete Downes welcomed the achievement, saying 'To be identified as one of the world's top 100 universities for both Medicine and Biological Sciences is a fantastic achievement.'

The announcement came hot on the heels of The Scientist magazine naming the university the UK's 'Best Place to Work in Academia' for the second year in a row. In the global field, the institution was rated sixth-best.
