Scottish Mental Health Charities Merge

New partnership to further strengthen Scottish Association for Mental Health's existing services.

SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) and AMHA (Angus Mental Health Association) officially merged on Friday 1 July 2011. Hector MacKenzie, a current SAMH Trustee and retired senior civil servant, will chair the new AMHA Board, and the Angus charity will retain its own Board and identity.

AMHA hit the headlines last year when the loss of its contract to provide services locally confronted the charity with the prospect of closure. A passionate campaign by AMHA's members and service users led to productive talks with SAMH and brought about today's merger. AMHA will re-launch locally in October.

Charlie McMillan, SAMH Director of Operations said 'We are delighted to formalise our partnership with AMHA. Both SAMH and AMHA are committed to improving Scotland's mental health, and we can do so more effectively by working together'.
