Mental Health Awareness Day at The Circle

Local social enterprise, The Circle will be hosting a series of events to raise awareness about mental health during Mental Health Awareness Week. The events will take place on the 16th of May and will coincide with their Make May Purple event which will be raising awareness of the link between mental health and aphasia in collaboration with the Stroke Association.

The Circle founder and CEO, Kirsty Thomson will deliver an early morning session on the importance of self-care when running a business. As the founder of two social enterprises, she has had to learn just how important it is not only for her wellbeing but for the good of her organisations in the long run. Join Kirsty for this hour-long session where she will talk about her journey, how she learned how to incorporate self-care into her life and how encouraging self-care in your business is an integral part of a #MoreThanProfit approach.

Dawn Walton will share how she overcame an abusive childhood to have a successful career as a global business consultant. And then, how she turned her back on all of that once she found her own happiness. She is now a practicing therapist and author, having helped nearly 700 clients find their own happiness. You will come away from this talk with more than just insight. You will leave the talk looking at yourself and everyone around you in a different light.

In the evening, Liam McKelvie’s will be talking specifically about his struggle with self-acceptance and how many other people, disabled or not, also often struggle with viewing themselves in a positive light. He will take examples of events and mindsets from his own life that have created feelings of self-rejection and show how he has started to counter them with positive action. Liam hopes that everybody present will be inspired to take positive actions towards creating a better mindset towards themselves.

Liam McKelvie is excited to be involved in these events,

“I feel as an upcoming motivational speaker that I have a duty to help others understand and sometimes break free of their own self-defeating mindsets. The Mental Health Week event at The Circle is an ideal opportunity to inspire many others who could be struggling.”
