Nominations are now open for the Scottish Qualifications Authority’s 2019 Star Awards, SQA’s annual celebration of excellence in education, and training.
The SQA is seeking entries across thirteen categories which recognise the achievements of the individuals working towards its qualifications, as well as the schools, colleges, training providers, and employers and the people that deliver them.
The winners will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony in November at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
Dundee & Angus College were rewarded at last year’s awards for a unique project which sees college students foster relationships with employers to better prepare them for working in the tech industry.
Dundee and Angus College’s Digital Mile Programme links students with local, and global employers while they are still at college, giving them a flavour for life after graduation, and helping them make the successful transition into employment.
On collecting the Partnership for the Year award on behalf of the Programme, Gillian McGovern, Head of Learning, Computing and Creative Media, said: “It feels amazing to win the award tonight. This is a testament to the team who have worked really hard to promote employer engagement within the college and embed it within the SQA curriculum.”
Narrowly missing out in the same category was another Dundee and Angus College project, the Future Skills College, which saw collaborative working with schools, local authorities, and employers to provide work placements and apprenticeship opportunities for local S5 and S6 pupils.
Chris Ditchburn, course leader at D&A College, was highly commended in the SQA Champion category for his work creating a new suite of SQA Animal Care qualifications. Meanwhile, Lynsey Walker from MGT Training was high commended in the Training Organisation Candidate of the Year category.
Geraldine Balfour, SQA Regional Manager for Dundee, said: "Be inspired by Dundee’s amazing success at last year’s awards, and submit a nomination this year. The SQA Star Awards are an excellent opportunity for you to celebrate the achievements of learners, schools, colleges, training providers and employers across Ayrshire.”
