Local social enterprise hub, The Circle will deliver their quarterly speaking and networking event, The Circle Chit Chat on Thursday 30th May from 10am to 12pm. The event is kindly hosted by DC Thomson and will showcase four guest speakers who are all high-profile social entrepreneurs.
Guest speakers are:
David Cook, Project Director at West Ward Works - David Cook runs Cook Creative, a consultancy which supports creative, social and commercial companies with business change and cultural property development, specialising in developing creative workspaces.
Jenny Paterson, CEO of Breakthrough Dundee - Jenny joined young persons’ charity Breakthrough as CEO in March 2018 having previously been the director of the National Autistic Society Scotland. Originally from Co. Antrim in Northern Ireland, Jenny moved to Scotland 25 years ago to study sociology and social policy at Stirling University. She has worked in the third sector for over 20 years and has held senior leadership roles in some of the largest social care charities in Scotland.
Anna Fowlie, CEO of SCVO - Anna became the chief executive of SCVO in 2018. SCVO is the national membership body for the voluntary sector. We have over 2,000 members, and also have a remit to represent and support the sector as a whole (over 40,000 organisations
Jane Richardson, Changing the Chemistry - Changing the Chemistry is a charity dedicated to improving board effectiveness through greater diversity of thought in the boardroom. A former Trustee with Changing the Chemistry, Jane is now an ambassador for the organisation in the Dundee area. She has served on the boards of Dundee Rep Theatre and Dundee & Angus College.
The Circle’s Academy Manager, Kara Swankie will also be speaking at the event. She will be introducing The Circle’s latest initiative, The Circle Academy.
The Circle Academy is a practical education and training programme for people interested in starting up organisations with a more than profit approach.
Kara says:
“The Circle Academy programme is designed to support emerging individuals who are interested in a More Than Profit approach, as they implement and develop their ideas. The Academy is looking for aspiring leaders who are deeply committed to making the world a better place and want to actively inspire others to support their mission.”

The Circle Chit Chat is a free and informal networking opportunity for anyone involved with a charity, social enterprise or community group. Hosted by a different organisation each time, it runs on a quarterly basis and includes short presentations on subjects of interest to members including funding, social media skills, service design, team building and much more. There is always time to network with others and opportunities for cooperative working.
