New Macmillan Move More Gentle Movement Class at Carnoustie Library

ANGUSalive is delighted to announce the launch of a new Gentle Movement class for people living with or beyond cancer, starting at Carnoustie Library on 13th June at 1pm. This class is free, and is part of Move More ANGUSalive - a new programme to support people affected by cancer to stay active at a level that’s right for them.

Move More Scotland is part of Macmillan Cancer Support’s national campaign to ensure that people living with and beyond cancer are supported to become physically active before, during, and after treatment. Leading a physically active lifestyle during and after cancer is linked to improvements in many of the adverse effects of cancer and its treatments. An active lifestyle helps overcome fatigue, anxiety and depression, while protecting the heart, lungs and bones. In some cases, being physically active has been shown to slow disease progression, improve survival and reduce the chance of recurrence.

Working in partnership with local authorities, Macmillan Cancer Support is delivering Move More throughout Scotland. ANGUSalive is currently developing this exciting new programme, and the class at Carnoustie Library is amongst the first activities to be offered. The programme is being developed to offer four main physical activity opportunities across Angus: Gentle Movement, walking, gardening, and circuit-based exercise classes.

Gentle Movement classes take participants through a range of exercises which incorporate breathing techniques and mindfulness, and are led by qualified volunteers. The exercises are designed to get people moving but also provide an opportunity to relax. All the exercises can be done seated or standing.

Anyone living with or beyond cancer who would like to attend the Carnoustie Library class, or is interested in receiving free support to be more active through Move More, can contact the Move More team on 01307 492059 or email movemore@angusalive.scot.

There is also a Macmillan Information Point at Carnoustie Library which is for anyone affected by cancer to access information and support. Leaflets are available on a wide range of topics, including caring for someone with cancer, finance advice, and support for people going through cancer.

Macmillan is one of the leading charitable organisations in the UK, providing specialised health care, support and information to people affected by cancer and their families. The charity was founded in 1911 by Douglas Macmillan with the mission to ease the suffering of families affected by cancer, and strives to continue improving the experience of those affected by the disease.
